Safety Manager
Position Details
We are looking to hire a individual to help ensure a safe working environment for all that is in compliance with MSHA, OSHA, and environmental and food/feed regulations. This employee should also be able to support employee overall health and well-being.
Responsibilities & Tasks
- Develop and maintain rewards based safety awareness and improvement program
- Lead safety walks with members of the management team to inspect, evaluate, and improve as required all workplace environments, equipment, and practices
- Investigate and report injuries, accidents, and near misses
- Work with the appropriate team members to identify root causes and corrective actions and clearly communicate the outcome to all employees
- Conduct safety training and education programs for all employees as required to meet applicable regulations
- Maintain accurate records and reports to ensure compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, and feed regulations
- Ensure reports are submitted on time to all government agencies as required
- Partner with HR to monitor open worker’s compensation claims and coordinate activities to minimize lost and/or restricted workdays
- Serve as HR’s contact for onboarding of new employees and initial questions and concerns at both the Fort Dodge and Gilmore City operations
- Maintain all right to know programs
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school or equivalent required, 2-year associates degree or higher preferred
- Minimum of two years of experience in a safety-related role in a manufacturing/production facility
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail are very important
- Ability to connect with and educate employees on the importance of safe work practices and environmental compliance
- Communicate effectively with government officials
- Knowledge, experience, and familiarity with MSHA, OSHA, IDNR, and EPA regulations
- Mechanical aptitude to understand the inner workings of equipment, application of guards, and practices needed to maintain a safe working environment
- Organizing and planning skills are required to successfully maintain records and develop training plans
- Forklift Certified OSHA approved and OSHA safety certification
- Experience with regulatory agencies
- Experience with MS Word and Excel
- Valid driver’s license
